Auckland: Bolaven

Bolaven is now the new spot on Mt Eden road, once the home to Bowman’s. Bringing an Asian flavour, this place has a great vibe and atmosphere for a casual bite. With this terribly cold weather, Bolavenserve up heart warming dishes for the soul.

I had the beef pho, and its extremely generous on the portion size. The meat was beautifully tender and I couldn’t get enough. For me personally it was delicious but tbh I haven’t had a beef pho before, so I don’t have a lot to compare to. The only difficulty I had was trying to eat out of a larger then average bowl but if your a big guy it would probably do you fine. My two friends had the chicken stew and the steamed salmon, both being served with sticky rice. Both dishes i snuck a bite of, and both cooked to perfection. The rice was a very generous helping and a really nice change from your plain rice!

The service was very friendly and although there a heap of tables, you don’t feel squashed or overly close to other diners! This is a great little eatery and I would def recommend it! They are now also open for dinner on a Thurs, Fri and Sat.
