Auckland: Milse

Craving that something sweet? Milse is an eatery found in Britomart specialising in sultry, delectable desserts. With the option of an a la carte menu or takeaway, its a place that will fulfil anyones desires. With the chance of finally dining in, the menu is listed to give you a flavour profile of each of the desserts listed with more to come when served.

I have always wondered why the hype is so big and the line so long, its due to the inside. It is very small with only seating 4-5tables and a small bar that sits in front of the dessert kitchen. After only trying the takeaway desserts before, I finally got a table to sit and dine in. We shared the kumquat special, and the chocolate hazelnut dessert. We found both were layered well, with mounts of textures and great flavour. The lemon sorbet on the kumquat dessert really balanced out the dish however I wish the scoop was a little bigger, as I felt it just needed a bit more. Its always a great idea to order one fruitier dessert with an indulgent chocolate dessert, to balance out the richness. If your a chocolate lover, I recommend ordering this one. It’s almost a deconstructed chocolate brownie, with hazelnut throughout. Delicious, but my only negative for this dish, is that it’s a bit dry. I would really like to see a puree or tea drizzled over for moisture.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting but a bit claustrophobic at the same time – that just might be me as I am claustrophobic ha. Lovely service and would return anytime for dine in or takeaway dessert, but who wouldn’t for who doesn’t love dessert.
