Whangarei: Killer Prawn

Killer Prawn is one of the few eateries I eat at when visiting Whangarei. With the option of table service or bar seats, it has a great warm atmosphere but is also a great water hole for a casual drink.

We came for lunch on a quiet Monday, so I can’t complain about bad service, as there were only a small amount of diners, meaning food and waiters were pleasant and efficient. Due to my love of sharing food we chose to eat tapas style but they also offer and a la carte menu if you want a more substantial lunch or dinner.

The prawn tempura was delicious. They were perfectly cooked, and were shelled with a light crispy batter.  We agreed the mussels had really great flavour, extremely moorish and cooked to the correct degree. The lamb sliders were nice but nothing amazing but if it wasn’t for the beetroot they would have lacked any sort of flavour.

If you want a casual drink or a slightly better pub meal, check out Killer Prawn.
