Bloggers Club: Wanderlust Travel Tag

With my love of food, comes the love for travel. I’ve always said my dream job would to be paid to eat and travel. I have never been that girl who spends all my earnings on random shopping outings, and saved every xmas penny to travel. These last couple of years dating an Englishman, has given me the funds to visit the other side of the world on a lower budget than some. With travel comes lots and lots of eating, seeing new icons and boasting that you have visited that place. I think what I love most is that I can say I have had a French Onion Soup from France. Eating the iconic dishes from their originating countries are one of the best experiences. Wanderlust Tag is a series of travel-related questions with people who have wanderlust.

Where was your first plane to?

New Zealand I assume? I was actually born in Sydney, Auzzie while the parents were working over there. Once I was born we all came back to NZ.

Where have you travelled to that you would love to travel again?

Singapore. I have actually been 3 times, but I can’t get over how fast pace the country is, and the options for food and shopping is overwhelming. I have a goal to live and work for 1 year in Singapore, after my stint in London.

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no object where are you going?

JAPAN!!!! Its THE place on my must go to country. I am sushi obsessed. Japan just shouts modern, eating, shopping, shoes, food, food, food, eating and food! As soon as that cheap flight turns up this year, I am booked!

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or cars?

Most likely planes… The excitement builds more when you know you’re visiting a new country. Trains are good for scenery, and if they went just as quick as planes I would probably choose them over planes, due to being claustrophobic. Cars are great for road trips though .. you can venture off onto any track. Stop and eat what you want. See what you want.

Favourite travel website?

Trip Advisor – it saved my bf and I when we holidayed in Thailand. Honest feedback from other travellers and great tips of what to see and what to avoid.

Where would you travel to just eat the food?

Italy. I have had no real urge to visit there, just to go and get fat on pizza, pasta and gelato. I love to eat and its the perfect excuse to soak up all those carbs we all try to avoid.

Is there a place you would never go again?

Patong Beach, Thailand. I loved Bangkok, but Phuket caters too much for tourists. Theres no authenticity. The food is awful. The locals are a tad shady. You can’t relax on the beach. Its no dream destination and would avoid it if ever returning to Thailand.

Can you recite your passport number from memory if asked?

Ahhh EB..Something? I dunno but also just joined the cool kids club with one of the newly designed passports. It doesnt look wear for tear anymore.

Do you prefer the Window, Aisle, or Middle seat?

Window. And if i dont get that i choose the aisle. Mostly because i like the extra space to put your feet up and cosy up to sleep.

How do you pass the time on the air plane?

Im a bit of a nerd. I think on almost every long haul flight, I have played Tetris. I find it hard to focus on movies while flying and tend to stick to tv series. However I was that embarrassing/annoying passenger who watched Bridesmaids for the first time and couldn’t hear how loud I was laughing out loud.

    1. Singapore is Amazing! Its just so fast pace. And its so clean! But the great thing is that everyone speaks english so theres no language barriers.

  5. What bugs did you eat? I’ve eaten crickets in Laos. They were deep fried and served with salsa so they just tasted like nachos to me. Good luck with the move. So exciting! Will miss your food reviews.

    1. Umm i can’t quite remember now. We ate them at the Patong Night Markets. Haha no salsa with mine – just on a stick. You only live once and there was probably no other time i would try them otherwise. Thanks! Im keeping up with the food reviews, just in a new location 🙂

      1. Yeah, I’ve realised that we’re often too hard on ourselves. It’s OK not to be perfect all of the time. The more/less model is just a rough guide.

It’s a real shame that you experience of Phuket is based on Patong. We stayed at Karon beach (two beaches over) and it was beautiful. I agree that Patong is very tourist orientated, mainly aimed at the British tourist with night clubs etc but Phuket itself is beautiful and there is definitely more to it than just westernised bars and pubs.
Then again, not everyone has a pleasant experience everywhere they go 🙂
Japan is supposed to be a beautiful place to be and I definitely think it’s worth a visit! I like how they seem to have this mash up of old world and new world and somehow they mesh together really well.

  10. Love the tag! I’ve done it on my blog: I completely agree about the food in Italy – it’s so delicious! There are some pretty fantastic places to see as well – it’s definitely a great place to visit 🙂
