Im new to London and the first place I check out is Crosstown Doughnuts! Tucked quietly in the Piccadilly Circus tube Station, a sweet treat and quick bite for your morning rush or afternoon pickup – doughnuts and coffee. Crosstown doughnuts offer a hybrid doughnut using a sourdough starter combined with your normal bakers yeast. This is great as the doughnut absorbs less fat then the average doughnut. What really attracted me were the creative toppings with surprise fillings. We actually went later in the afternoon and most of the flavours were sold out – due to some greedy customer buying 60! Because I wanted options we actually came back the next day – earlier in the morn and were spoilt for choice.
The rocky road doughnut was amazing, chocolate topped with marshmallows and freeze-dried raspberries, filled with heaps of jam! This was good if you don’t want anything to rich. The chocolate truffle had the most delicious chocolate filling. Surprisingly not as rich as I thought considering it was chocolate coated and filled with mounts of runny choc. The staff were really helpful with offering the popular choices, also were kind enough to recommend other eateries to check out in London after my request. It’s great having a community of kiwis here and know we can all rely on one another for advice. Will def be returning!
