From pop up to new home on K Road – Cotto is serving up delicate but comforting pasta dishes. Following suit to the unique hipster eateries along Krd Cotto is no different – not to say that isn’t a bad thing. It has a great indoor open vibe with the added options to chill on a couch or enjoy the outdoor bar for a meal or a drink.
I must admit, this restaurant had been on my list of go-to places since I saw it as a pop-up, following their Instagram feed alone just makes you hungry. Between the 4 of us, we ordered 4 dishes to share (a mix of small and large) with a starter of the focaccia, which was just enough!
Where to start? The eggplant ravioli not only looked eye watering but also deliciously light with just the right amount of bite. The pumpkin gnudi, although we all agreed that the idea was there, there was a sweet aftertaste which wasn’t bad, but not great either.
A must order is Cotto’s cult favourite. The spinach and goat cheese dumplings are a delicious change up to your every day pasta with fan favourite flavours in a buttery sauce. Why not eat more greens with the gnocchi? A great portion size with a tomato sauce. From what it looks like online, this dish is ever changing. To be honest Cotto is bringing their game with handmade pasta. The dishes are light, flavoursome and made with love, no heavy creamy pasta dishes here.
My only quam, which unfortunately needs to pick up its game, is the service. Coming for a weeknight meal, when the restaurant wasn’t overly busy, the waitresses lacked attentiveness and efficiency. I think we must have asked for water at least 4x times before actually getting any. Also I understand the dishes are designed for sharing but it would be nice to have more than 1 or 2 dishes to arrive at the table at a time, especially when there is 4 of you at the table. Is there not a place, which can serve them all up together? Or at least maybe tell us that the dishes will be served as they are ready whilst ordering? Poor service can really just bring down your experience especially when the simple the tasks cannot be fulfilled properly.
Cotto brings you love on plate with their pasta handled with care. They lure you in with comforting and creative flavours and you leave wanting more. A return is definitely on the cards, please just fix your service hiccups!
